The Bible and Evolution

The sources present creation and evolution as exact opposites that cannot both be correct. Evolution is defined as a naturalistic theory claiming the Universe and life resulted from random processes over billions of years without a Creator. Conversely, creation asserts that a supernatural Being is responsible for the origin and design of the Universe through processes that are no longer in operation.

The Scientific Challenge to Evolution

The sources argue that the core tenets of evolution are contradicted by established scientific laws:

  • Law of Biogenesis: This law states that life only comes from pre-existing life of its own kind. Evolution relies on the idea of spontaneous generation—life popping into existence from non-living chemicals—which the sources claim is scientifically impossible.
  • Limits of Change: While the sources acknowledge microevolution (small changes within a “kind,” such as different beak sizes in finches), they reject macroevolution (one kind of animal turning into another). They contend that while dogs can vary in size or color, they will always be dogs and never evolve into a different kind of animal like a cat.
  • Biblical “Kinds” vs. Species: The sources suggest that past confusion arose because people equated the biblical word “kind” with the biological word “species”. They clarify that the Bible does not teach that species are fixed, but that reproduction is limited to the created “kind”.

The Rejection of Theistic Evolution

Some people attempt to combine these views through theistic evolution, the idea that God used evolution to create the world. The sources reject this for two primary reasons:

  1. Evolution is False: The sources argue there is no proof for fish evolving into amphibians or ape-like creatures becoming humans.
  2. Contradictory Chronology: The order of events in the Bible directly contradicts the evolutionary timeline.

Chronological Discrepancies

The sources highlight specific contradictions between the Genesis account and evolutionary theory:

  • The Sun and Earth: Evolution claims the Sun evolved millions of years before the Earth, but Genesis states God created the water-covered Earth on Day One and the Sun on Day Four.
  • Water and Land: Evolution suggests the early Earth was a cloud of dust with no water for millions of years; the Bible says God spoke a water-covered Earth into existence and made dry land appear on Day Three.
  • Trees and Animals: Evolution contends that fish and insects existed millions of years before fruit-bearing trees; the Bible teaches that fruit trees were created on Day Three, prior to any animal life.
  • Birds and Land Animals: Textbooks often teach birds evolved from land animals (like dinosaurs), but Genesis says birds were created on Day Five, a full day before land animals.

The Age of the Earth and Human History

The sources state that evolution requires billions of years to be possible, whereas the Bible indicates a young Earth.

  • Genealogies: By tracking the genealogies from Jesus back to Adam, the sources calculate that the Earth is approximately 6,000 years old. They argue that while a few thousand years might be logically added, billions of years cannot fit into these records.
  • Human Presence: Evolution places humans at the very end of a 14-billion-year timeline, but the Bible states humans have been here “from the foundation of the world” and “from the beginning of the creation”. Paul’s writing in Romans 1:20 is cited to show that man has been perceiving God’s attributes “since the creation of the world,” which would be impossible if humans were separated from creation by billions of years.
  • Coexistence with Dinosaurs: Because dinosaurs were land animals created on Day Six, the sources conclude they lived alongside Adam and Eve. This contradicts the evolutionary claim that a 60-million-year gap exists between dinosaurs and humans.
